ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT
Today approximately 11% of Latin America’s surface has been designated a protected area, more than in any other region of the world. There has been increasing interest in the importance of agricultural soils as global carbon sinks, and the opportunity of enhancing the resilience of degraded agroecosystems – particularly in savanna regions of the world. However, this opportunity is largely a function of land use and or land management choices, which differ between and within regions.

Apart from large forest belonging to private companies, the planting of forest is becoming increasingly popular as an alternative among small and medium sized rural properties in view of the programs of forest incentives created by large paper and pulp, steel and plywood industries.
